Pune: Supriya Sule Urges State Govt To Declare Drought In Maharashtra

Pune 24th August 2023: Senior leader of Nationalist Congress Party and Member of Parliament from Pune’s Baramati Lok Sabha constituency Supriya Sule on Thursday urged the state government to declare drought in Maharashtra. Sule has claimed that the state has received less than average rainfall this year and the farmers’ crops are less likely to revive in some areas.

She has said that the state has not received expected rainfall in June, July and August months. In August, the rainfall was reported to be 68% less than average. In all the regions of Maharashtra, the average rainfall was reported to be 80% less between August 1 and August 18.

It is important that these farmers be provided benefits of crop insurance scheme. Besides, the state government should immediately declare drought in Maharashtra, said Supriya Sule. She also advised the government to start taking stock of the situation and start implementing measures needed in drought affected areas.
