Pune: SVS Aqua Technologies CEO Arrested For Culpable Homicide After Death Of 17 Workers In Fire

Pune, 8th June 2021: An FIR has been registered by Pune rural police against the CEO of SVS Aqua Technologies whose 17 workers died in the fire at the company’s factory in Pirangut-Urawade industrial estate in Mulshi taluka on Monday.

Paud police station has arrested Nikunj Shah for culpable homicide under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the accident was due to the negligence of the owners of the chemical company. Police Inspector Ashok Dhumal of Paud Police Station is investigating the incident.

According to police, the bodies of the workers have been burnt completely, making it difficult to identify them. Therefore, it was decided to conduct a DNA test of the bodies by the rural police. Blood samples were collected from the relatives of the workers who died in the blaze. The dead bodies were identified by DNA test as well as blood samples.

The deceased have been identified as Manda Bhausaheb Kulat (age 45), Sangeeta Ulhas Gonde (age 36), Geeta Bharat Diwarkar (age 38), Trishla Sambhaji Jadhav (age 33), Surekha Manohar Tupe (age 45), Sunita Rahul Sathe (age 28), Atul Laxman Sathe (age 23), Sarika Chandrakant Kudale (age 37), Dhanshree Rajaram Shelar (age 22), Sangeeta Appa Polekar (age 42), Mahadevi Sanjay Ambare (age 35), Archana Venkat Kavade (age 33), Sheetal Khopkar, Mangal Baban Margale, Suman Sanjay Dhebe, Seema Sachin Borade (age 30) and Sachin Madan Ghodke (age 25). Four others are injured.

During preliminary investigation it has been revealed that prescribed norms were not followed for storing inflammable materials besides fire brigade NOC was not taken, police said.
