Pune: Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan 2.0 To Commence On September 15 In PCMC

Pimpri, 8th September 2023: The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, is set to organize Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Nagari 2.0 (PCMC) from September 15 to October 2, 2023.

PCMC Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate has issued directives to implement the Zero Waste Slum Project under this initiative, on the lines of pilot project at Gawalimatha Gulabpushp Udyan.

As part of the campaign, a “Garbage Free City” (GFC) certification check will be conducted in Pimpri-Chinchwad through the Swachh Survekshan 2023 campaign, aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. A meeting, presided over by Additional Commissioner Khorate on the instructions of Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, was convened to discuss the preparations for this certification.

Additionally, a service and safety camp for ‘Indian Swachhta League 2.0’ and Safaimitra will be organized from September 15, 2023.

During the meeting, Additional Commissioner Khorate emphasized the implementation of the Zero Waste Slum Project, which was initiated on an experimental basis at Gawalimatha Gulabpushp Udyan in Zone Office C. This also includes planning and preparation for Indian Swachhta League 2.0 and pre-preparation for waste-free city certification.

The meeting was attended by City Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, Assistant Commissioner Yashwant Dange, Vijay Kumar Thorat, Health Executive Officer Ganesh Deshpande, Zonal Officers Suchita Pansare and Amit Pandit, among others.

Assistant Commissioner Yashwant Dange reviewed the progress of the zero waste slum project in various areas, while Vinayak Padmane of KPMG presented information on Zero Waste City- GFC and Indian Swachhta League 2.0.

In line with Commissioner Singh’s instructions regarding the Zero Waste Slum Project, a comprehensive review of the project’s progress was conducted, including the determination of locations across slum areas, self-help groups, waste generation statistics, infrastructure, and challenges.

Consequently, Additional Commissioner Khorate directed the relevant municipal department heads to ensure the cleaning of residential and commercial areas, roads, footpaths, dividers, traffic barriers, slum areas, historical and tourist sites, transport hubs, educational institutions, reservoirs, drains, river areas, and ghats throughout the city.
