Pune: Symbiosis Hospital Doctor Booked for Demanding Cash for Surgery
Bavdhan, 10th April 2025: A doctor associated with Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre in Lavale has been booked for allegedly demanding ₹20,000 in cash from the relatives of a patient in exchange for conducting an urgent surgery.
The complaint was filed by Dilip Shivsharan, a 38-year-old resident of Uttamnagar, who had taken his aunt to the hospital after she experienced severe gallbladder pain.
According to the FIR, the attending doctor — identified as Dr. Pravin Lohate, 55, from Chandannagar — allegedly told the family that the patient’s condition was critical and that immediate surgery was necessary.
However, before proceeding with the operation, Dr. Lohate reportedly insisted on receiving ₹20,000 in cash. The complainant stated that the doctor made it clear the surgery would only be performed if the payment was made upfront.
Following the complaint, Bavdhan Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police) has registered a case against the doctor under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
