Wakad, 27th December 2023: In a significant breakthrough, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police have successfully busted a gang from Tamil Nadu notorious for stealing mobile phones and laptops through open doors in the morning.

The operation led to the seizure of 60 mobile phones and 14 laptops, collectively valued at Rs 14 lakh 30 thousand. The successful police action has resulted in the resolution of 23 crimes across multiple Police Stations in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, including Wakad, Nigdi, Chinchwad, Chikhali, Bhosari, and Bhosari MIDC.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Soundarajan Govindan (21 years old, native of Tamil Nadu), Gunasekar Shankar (21 years old), and Tamilarasan Sukhwanibaug (resident of Bhosari, native of Tamil Nadu).

DCP Dr Kakasaheb Dole explained that the increase in thefts involving laptops and mobile phones through open doors in the morning prompted Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey to issue instructions to intensify efforts in addressing this issue. The police patrolling efforts had a positive impact, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspects.

The accused, hailing from Tamil Nadu, would reportedly target houses with open doors in the morning, stealing valuables like laptops and mobile phones. Their modus operandi involved leaving the house promptly if an accomplice failed to return within the stipulated time, preventing any immediate connection to the crime.

In a proactive move, the Wakad police apprehended Soundarajan initially. However, language barriers arose during communication as he only spoke Tamil. To overcome this challenge, police constable Satish Pillamari, fluent in Tamil, was included in the investigation team to facilitate effective interrogation.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Kakasaheb Dole, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr Vishal Hire. The collaborative effort was carried out under the leadership of Senior Police Inspector Ganesh Jawadwad, Police Inspector (Crime) Vitthal Salunkhe, and their team.
