Pune: Target To Complete University Chowk Flyover By January 2024; Actual Work Will Start After Eight Days
Pune, 12th October 2022: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has prepared a comprehensive plan for the work of a double-decker flyover at Acharya Anandrishiji Chowk (opposite Savitribai Phule Pune University).
Accordingly, the work on this bridge was to be completed by November 2024. However, with the help of new technology, this period has been shortened and the work has been targeted to be completed in January 2024.
For that, PMRDA has ordered the Tata Company, which is constructing the flyover through a technical consultant, to complete the work by January 2024 and asked for a revised construction plan.
A joint meeting of officials from Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Traffic Police was held. In this meeting, it was decided to complete the flyover work by January 2024 with the help of modern technology from the point of view of traffic congestion.
Accordingly, a modified construction plan for the bridge has been requested from the Tata company, which is building this bridge, using new technical equipment and additional manpower. The time frame of this project will be clear only after receiving this plan.
Speaking about this, Chief Engineer of PMRDA Vivek Kharwadkar said, “According to the meeting held with PUMTA, instructions have been given to the Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department (PWD) regarding traffic, encroachment, road repair, alternative roads and pothole repair from PMRDA around the university.”
He further informed that Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro route is proposed from this place and necessary instructions have also been given to them. Earlier from Monday (October 10), traffic barriers (barricades) have been started from E-Square to Firodia Bungalow. The work for a distance of about 240 meters will continue for a week. After the completion of this work, the work of determining the distance of flyover pillars will be started in a phased manner.
After the demolition of the old bridge at Chandni Chowk, the work of breaking the hills to widen the road is underway. The traffic at this place has been closed for a certain time. As a result, the traffic pressure on the road at University Chowk is reduced due to the external detour road. Therefore, it was decided to start the work of the flyover at this intersection after four days.
