Pune: Tata Projects Fined Rs 15 Lakh for Dumping Metro Construction Debris in Balewadi
Pune, 19th September 2025: A massive pile of construction debris from the Pune Metro project has been found dumped illegally in an open space near Balewadi High Street. Acting on the violation, the Aundh–Baner ward office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has imposed a fine of ₹15 lakh on Tata Construction.
During inspections, PMC officials discovered that around 50 to 70 truckloads of debris had been offloaded in the area using vehicles bearing registration numbers MH 12 XN 1301 and MH 12 XM 8049. The debris, disposed of without any prior permission, has caused environmental pollution and significantly defaced the surrounding locality.
According to PMC regulations, a penalty of ₹25,000 is levied per truckload of unauthorized debris. Based on 60 vehicles identified, the fine amounts to ₹15 lakh. The civic body has also directed Tata Construction to clear the dumped debris immediately. Failure to comply with the order will invite additional legal action.
The official notice, issued under the signature of PMC Assistant Commissioner Nitin Dapkekar, has sent a strong warning to contractors engaged in Metro-related work, making it clear that civic responsibility and environmental norms cannot be ignored.
