Pune: Teenage Boy Attacks Traffic Officer With Beer Bottle, Arrested
Pune, 17th October 2022: A youth attacked a traffic policeman on duty with a beer bottle, leaving him seriously injured, in the Kalewadi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Saturday. The incident took place as police personnel tried to ease the traffic jam at a junction.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. at MM Chowk when the accused, Vaibhav Gaikwad (19), a resident of Kalewadi’s Pavananagar area, attacked traffic constable Ramesh Jadhav (52), who is currently assigned to the Wakad traffic division. Jadhav was taken to a nearby hospital and is being treated for a head injury. On Sunday morning, he filed an FIR at the Wakad police station.
According to police, Jadhav was on duty at Rahanti Chowk on Saturday night when he was ordered by higher officials to rush to MM Chowk because of traffic gridlock in the vicinity at around 7.45 pm. When Jadhav arrived, other traffic police officers were already trying to reduce the crowd. Jadhav coordinated with them to halt traffic from Tapkir Chowk to MM Chowk so that the cars coming from Chinchwad could pass. Gaikwad allegedly approached him at that point and began cursing at him, according to the police. Gaikwad allegedly pulled out a beer bottle and smacked Jadhav on the head as the officer motioned for him to move aside. Jadhav began to bleed heavily and his clothing was covered in blood.
Allegedly, Gaikwad also threatened other police officials who tried to intervene. The accused was arrested.
