Pune: Teenagers’ Dispute Triggers Communal Tension in Kondhwa, Police Say Situation Peaceful Now
Kondhwa, 19th May 2026: A dispute between teenagers in Kondhwa area escalated into communal tension late Monday night after members of two communities gathered and clashed, prompting heavy police deployment and use of force to disperse the crowd.
According to senior officials from the Pune City Police, the incident unfolded between 11 pm on Monday and 2 am on Tuesday. What began as a quarrel between teenage boys inside a residential society soon intensified as older youths and local residents joined the confrontation.
Police said rival groups from two different communities assembled at the spot, turning the altercation into a serious law and order issue. “We rushed additional police personnel to the area to control the situation,” a senior officer said.
During the operation, some people allegedly pelted stones at police teams attempting to disperse the crowd. Police then used force to bring the situation under control and clear the area.
Officials said no injuries were reported in the incident. Cases are being registered and several persons have been detained for questioning. Police deployment continued in parts of Kondhwa on Tuesday as a precautionary measure, though officials said the situation remained peaceful.
