Wakad, 15th March 2025: A dangerous act of reckless celebration turned violent near Nisarg City-1 in Kaspatevasti, Wakad, as two teenagers threw firecrackers (Sutli Bombs) at passing vehicles to celebrate India’s Champions Trophy victory on Sunday, March 9. The incident could have resulted in major accidents, as some firecrackers exploded dangerously close to vehicle engines.

A resident of the society, who attempted to stop them, was allegedly assaulted by the teenagers’ family.

“One of the firecrackers burst near my scooter, so I confronted them. Instead of stopping, their family attacked me. They even threatened me, saying that if I didn’t move inside quietly, they would hurt me more,” the victim told Punekar News.

CCTV Footage Reveals the Full Extent of the Incident
The victim later reviewed the CCTV footage and discovered that the teenagers and their family members had also thrown firecrackers at other vehicles—something the police were initially unaware of.

“After the assault, we called the police, and they arrived within 15 minutes. I filed a complaint against the attackers, but at that time, we did not know they were also targeting vehicles. We only discovered this after reviewing the CCTV footage,” the resident added.

Police Response and Investigation
An officer from Wakad police station confirmed that a complaint had been received regarding the assault and that the accused were warned against attacking anyone in the future. However, the police had not been informed about the firecracker incident at the time of the complaint.

“We were only made aware of the physical assault. The fact that they were throwing firecrackers at vehicles came to light later through CCTV footage,” said a police official on condition of anonymity.

When contacted, Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar, in charge of Wakad Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad Police), stated that he was unaware of the incident.
