Pune: Temperatures Plunge to 6.9°C, Coldest Morning of The Season
Pune, 20th December 2025: Winter tightened its grip on Pune district as night-time temperatures dropped sharply, marking the coldest morning of the season so far. Haveli (Loni Kalbhor) recorded a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the district this winter, signalling an intensification of cold conditions.
The chill was felt across the city as well. Shivajinagar, Pune’s official weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius, marking the 10th day in December when the mercury dipped into single digits.
The cold spell was not confined to the city alone. At least six other weather stations across the district reported single-digit minimum temperatures. Malin and Pashan recorded 7.3 degrees Celsius each, while Baramati saw temperatures fall to 7.6 degrees Celsius. Talegaon recorded 8.3 degrees Celsius, Daund 8.5 degrees Celsius, and Ambegaon remained just below double digits at 9.8 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists attributed the continuing drop in temperatures to clear skies, which enhance radiational cooling during night-time hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast clear weather over the next two to three days, indicating that cold conditions are likely to persist across Pune city and district.
With colder nights and early mornings expected to continue, residents are experiencing a pronounced winter chill, particularly in suburban and rural areas where temperatures tend to dip lower than in the urban core.
Meanwhile, as cold conditions intensify, air quality levels across Pune have shown fluctuations, ranging from ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’. On December 20, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 176, placing the city in the ‘moderate’ category. A day earlier, air quality had deteriorated to the ‘poor’ category, with AQI levels crossing 200.
The highest AQI was recorded at 295 in Bhumkar Nagar in Pimpri-Chinchwad, followed by Hadapsar, which reported the second-highest AQI at 257.
