Pune: Three Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Katraj for Illegal Stay; Deportation Process Initiated

Katraj, 18th May 2025: Ambegaon police have arrested three Bangladeshi nationals — two men and a woman — for allegedly entering India without valid documents and residing illegally in Pune’s Katraj area. The arrests were made on Friday following a tip-off.
Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine of Ambegaon police station confirmed the arrests on Saturday, stating, “We received specific information about the presence of foreign nationals residing illegally. Based on this input, a team raided a rented flat in Katraj and detained the three individuals.”
Initial inquiries revealed that the trio hails from Khulna and Norail districts of Bangladesh. None of them possessed valid documentation to justify their stay in India.
According to police, the 22-year-old woman had recently arrived in Pune around two weeks ago. The two men, aged 32 and 33, were employed at a local poultry shop. Further investigation uncovered that the 33-year-old had previously been arrested by Navi Mumbai police on similar charges of illegal stay. “He was granted bail at the time, and we are looking into why he was not deported after the earlier case,” Zine added.
Authorities have now begun formal deportation proceedings for the three, who allegedly entered the country seeking employment opportunities.
In addition, police have booked the owner of the rented flat where the group was staying. “The landlord failed to carry out mandatory background checks before renting the premises, which is a violation,” the officer noted.
A case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing.
