Viman Nagar, 22nd April 2023: In response to the traffic congestion plaguing the city, officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have announced a plan to build a three-storey flyover from Shikrapur to Hyatt Hotel in Viman Nagar. The plan was presented to Leader of the Opposition Ajit Pawar on Friday, who visited Ahmednagar Road to take stock of the traffic congestion.

During his visit, Pawar instructed the Pune municipal corporation (PMC) to remove the BRTS on the route and take action against encroachments to smoothen traffic. He also contacted Mahametro Chief Brijesh Dixit over the phone and gave instructions to revise the DPR of the metro according to the work of the flyover. NHAI officials agreed to the revision.

According to the plan, the three-storey flyover will be constructed from Shikrapur to Wagholi and directly to the Hyatt Hotel in Viman Nagar. Pawar said he will meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and seek approval for it.

Pawar also asked municipal officials to start the work of the ring road from Wagholi, Lohegaon to Pimpri Chinchwad immediately. Meanwhile, the administration said that a committee will be appointed for the traffic remedial schemes on city roads.

During his visit, Pawar reviewed the work of the Kharadi-Shivne road, which is an alternative to the Ahmednagar road. PMC’s Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne said that the process of taking possession of the remaining two sites on this road is underway and it has now been completed, and the tender process for the road work will be started within a week.

Pawar also gave instructions to remove encroachments on the Ahmednagar road until Wagholi. “Even if there are encroachments by people of my party, take action and remove them,” he said.

The work of the highway from Pune to Aurangabad has been undertaken by the central government. A plan should be prepared for the three-storey flyover to be constructed from Shikrapur to Wagholi to be extended to the Hyatt Hotel in Viman Nagar. NHAI officials agreed to the plan, and Pawar said he will meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and seek approval for it.

According to officials present during Pawar’s visit, the BRTS scheme was mandatory while bringing funds for roads under the JNNURM scheme of the central government. Accordingly, the BRTS scheme was implemented at that time. However, now that traffic on this road has increased significantly, Pawar suggested that the BRTS route should be removed.
