Pune, 22nd August 2025: After a delay of three years, the much-awaited ward composition for the Pune Municipal Elections has finally been released, setting the stage for the city’s civic polls. The draft ward structure was inaugurated on Friday by Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, giving fresh momentum to the stalled electoral process.

According to the announcement, Pune city will elect 165 corporators across 41 wards. Of these, 40 wards will have four members each, while one ward will have five members. The structure has been designed based on the 2011 Census, which recorded Pune’s population at 34.81 lakh, including 4.68 lakh Scheduled Caste (SC) residents and 40,000 Scheduled Tribe (ST) residents.

As per the Urban Development Department’s schedule, the draft ward composition will be published by September 4, followed by a window for citizens to submit objections and suggestions between September 5 and 12. The final ward structure will be announced within the stipulated time frame.

The declaration has already stirred the city’s political landscape. Parties are gearing up for the polls, with memories of the 2017 ward structure controversy resurfacing. Despite the ruling grand alliance in the state, both the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have voiced dissatisfaction with the new ward arrangements, hinting at fresh political tussles ahead.

With the election process finally gaining traction, Pune is expected to witness heightened political activity in the coming weeks as parties prepare their strategies for the civic body polls.
