Pune, 24th February 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant rise in Pune’s daytime temperatures, with a 3-4°C increase expected until February 28. The mercury is likely to hover between 36°C and 37°C throughout the coming week, with warmer conditions setting in from February 25.

In addition to the rising heat, cloudy skies may develop during the evening hours starting February 24, according to the weather department.

“An anti-cyclonic circulation is currently influencing parts of the state, including Madhya Maharashtra, which encompasses Pune. This system is preventing cold northern winds from entering the region, leading to a steady rise in temperatures,” a senior IMD official explained.

The official further noted that Maharashtra is undergoing a seasonal shift, which typically results in fluctuating temperatures. “Over the past three weeks, daytime temperatures have increased by 3-4°C due to this transition,” he added.

While some areas in the Konkan region may witness light showers and cloudy conditions under the influence of western winds, the IMD clarified that “any rainfall will be minimal and short-lived.”

On Sunday, Solapur recorded the highest temperature in the state at 37.9°C, which was 3°C above normal. In the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, temperatures fluctuated between 32°C and 37°C, as per IMD data.

With the rising heat, experts warn that water resources could come under strain, particularly in areas where the groundwater levels are already low.
