Pune, 24th January 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to establish seven modern, air-conditioned VIP toilets at key entry points to the city. These facilities will be available on a ‘pay and use’ basis and are aimed at enhancing convenience for passengers.

The initiative comes following directives from Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, who emphasized the need for such facilities during a recent meeting.

According to Sandeep Kadam, Head of the Solid Waste Management Department, these toilets will be installed at strategic locations, including Katraj Chowk on Satara Road, Chandni Chowk and Baner on Pune-Mumbai Road, Wagholi on Ahilyanagar Road, Shewalewadi on Solapur Road, near Pune Airport, and near Pune Railway Station.

Each VIP toilet will feature air conditioning, modern bathrooms with bathing and changing facilities, and separate toilets for men, women, and transgender individuals. Additional amenities will include mobile and laptop charging points, Wi-Fi, and accessibility features for persons with disabilities. Caretakers and sanitation workers will be stationed at each facility to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance.

The cost of constructing one toilet is estimated at ₹50 lakh. The PMC has invited proposals from interested parties, offering various options for construction and maintenance. One proposed model includes granting advertising rights to the contractors as a source of revenue for maintaining these facilities.

“This initiative aims to provide world-class amenities to passengers while ensuring inclusivity and convenience,” said Sandeep Kadam.
