Pune to Get Twin Tunnel Underground Corridor from Yerawada to Katraj

Mumbai, 12th February 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to prepare a proposal for a twin tunnel underground corridor connecting Yerawada to Katraj in Pune. This directive was given during a meeting held at Sahyadri State Guest House in Mumbai, where development plans for Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar were discussed.

Key points from the meeting:

1. The underground corridor aims to improve transportation in Pune city.
2. Fadnavis instructed the use of new technology for the twin tunnel project.
3. Funds approved for various infrastructure projects:
– Rs 636.84 crore for road networks to the proposed new Purandar Airport
– Rs 203 crore for cement roads in Ranjangaon and Hinjawadi areas
– Rs 1,526 crore allocated for road networks in Urban Growth Centres

The Chief Minister emphasised the need for wider roads in new city developments, suggesting a minimum width of 18 metres. He also stressed the importance of considering future population growth when planning infrastructure.

Fadnavis also addressed specific needs for each region:

* Pune: Improve connectivity to Purandar Airport and consider Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited’s (PMPML) request for 500 CNG buses
* Nashik: Reserve land for wastewater treatment projects and prepare development plans for Kumbh Mela
* Nagpur: Explore the feasibility of the proposed office and residential complex at Sondapar
* Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar: Focus on nearby industrial areas and tourist spots in development plans

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, other ministers, and officials from various departments and development authorities.
