Pune: To Improve Accountability, PMC Mandates Daily Inspections of Complaint Sites
Pune, 28th February 2026: In a move aimed at speeding up the resolution of civic complaints, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made it mandatory for senior officials and engineers to carry out daily on-site inspections at locations from where citizens report grievances.
Residents frequently approach ward offices, the Municipal Commissioner’s office, or use the corporation’s grievance redressal systems to complain about incomplete or poorly executed development works and civic facilities. However, many such complaints remain unresolved as officials often fail to conduct site inspections.
To address the issue, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has issued an order directing deputy municipal commissioners, assistant municipal commissioners, and engineers from all departments to undertake field visits every day between 9.45 am and 11.45 am.
The directive follows earlier instructions by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, who had suggested that officials should conduct morning ward visits to identify civic problems such as damaged roads, encroachments, blocked drainage chambers, faulty sewer lines, and broken footpaths. Early inspections, she had said, would help resolve issues promptly and reduce the need for citizens to lodge repeated complaints.
Under the new order, officials are required to visit only those locations from which complaints or suggestions are received on a daily basis, rather than making routine general rounds. They must also submit daily inspection reports. Deputy municipal commissioners and assistant municipal commissioners will submit their reports to the respective additional commissioners, while engineers will report to the city engineer.
The move is intended to strengthen accountability within the civic administration and ensure faster and more effective redressal of public grievances.
