Pune, 11th October 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will now undertake urgent works worth Rs 55 crore for stormwater drainage lines in the Dhanori, Yerwada and Kalyaninagar areas of the city. The administration has taken this decision after the floodwaters hit the area on Saturday.

Heavy rains lashed Dhanori, Lohegaon, Viman Nagar, Kalyaninagar and Yerwada on Saturday evening. The ensuing floodwaters inundated societies and homes. Due to the non-operation of the stormwater drainage line in these areas, the citizens had to bear the brunt of this flood.

After this flood, the administration has finally woken up. On Monday, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar held a meeting in this regard. There is a provision of Rs 70 crore in the budget for the stormwater drainage line. Out of this, the commissioner directed the administration to immediately undertake works of stormwater drainage in the flood-hit areas of Dhanori, Kalyaninagar, Vimannagar and Hadapsar. Accordingly, the work will be started by conducting a tender process for these works, the administration said.

Corporator Anil Tingre had been pursuing the administration for four years for the work of stormwater lines in the Dhanori area. He expressed satisfaction that the work would be expedited now.
