Pune, 1 April 2021: The widening of the Pune-Satara stretch of the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway, has been stalled for over a decade and a half. Yet, the government has granted permission for the toll hike by five percent at Khed-Shivapur and Aanewadi toll plazas from April 1. The toll is being collected by Reliance infrastructure company, which is responsible for the road widening work on this stretch.

Reliance started work on Pune-Satara Highway on October 1, 2010. According to the original contract, the work was expected to be completed by March 31, 2013. However, this work has not yet been completed. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has not taken any action on the matter except to give an extension in work for the days as required by the contractor.

Service roads condition has deteriorated in many places. Also, work on the flyover remains. A committee appointed by the Pune district collector a few days ago has also reported that the road is dangerous for traffic. The report has also been sent to the NHAI, and demand to stop the toll collection on this road was made repeatedly.
