Pune: Tourists Banned From Visiting Rajgad, Torna Till Lockdown

Pune, 12th June 2021: A decision was taken in the tehsil level meeting held on Friday (11th June) that tourists should be banned from visiting the historical fort Rajgad and Torna in Velhe taluka till the lockdown.

The meeting was held at Velhe tehsil office. Tehsildar Shivaji Shinde, Assistant Police Inspector Manoj Pawar, president of police Patil association Balasaheb Rasal, Sarpanch of Velhe Sandeep Nagine, Sarpanch of Rajgad Payatha Pal Budruk Goraksh Shirke, Santosh More, and Sarpanch of the villages at the foot of the fort were present.

The towers on the fort were damaged on 5th June, and a large amount of rubbish was being dumped on the fort by tourists. Hence, tourists are not allowed to visit the forts to maintain the sanctity of the fort and for the safety of the people, officials said.

The Archaeological Department also decided to not let anyone stay at the fort. They have issued instructions to effectively implement the decision.

“If anyone is found on the fort at night, a case will be registered against the tourist. Also, the forest department should set up forest protection committees in the villages at the foot of the fort. It should be implemented and a check post should be started at the foot of the fort,” the committee decided.

Assistant Police Inspector Manoj Pawar informed that check posts have been set up at Karan Jawane, Chitmodi, Wajeghar and Kondhavale Fata.
