Pune, 12th June 2021: Yesterday, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) had decided to charge fees from those who come to the university to walk and to work out.

After opposition from student unions, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant said that the decision will be postponed. He also added that instructions have been given to the SPPU to formulate a new policy.

Earlier, SPPU had decided to charge fees from citizens who come to the university to work out. They were going to charge Rs one thousand for a month or Rs 5500 for six months. For a year, charges were decided at Rs 10,000. They would have been provided with an identity card for entry to the campus.

These ‘SPPU Oxy Park’ members were supposed to get facilities like an open gym, offers in the sports complex, membership offer for Jaykar library, and also health and ambulance services. The circular regarding this policy was released by Registrar Dr Prafulla Pawar on Friday.

Now, as per Minister Samant order, the current policy has been scrapped. A new policy will be formulated soon, Pawar stated in a circular.
