Pune: Traffic Diversion Implemented for Construction Of Girders At Chandni Chowk
Bavdhan, 28th June 2023: In order to facilitate the construction of the girders (Vehicular Overpass, or VOP) at Chandni Chowk junction in Pune, a temporary traffic diversion plan has been put in place.
The Pune-Satara National Highway No. 48 will experience controlled traffic flow for a period of three hours daily, from July 4 to July 15, 2023, between 12:30 pm. and 3:30 am. Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, the District Collector, has urged the public to utilise alternative service roads during this period.
A meeting was organised through video conference in the presence of District Collector Dr Deshmukh regarding the diversion of traffic in connection with the bridge work in Chandni Chowk. Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Ankit Goyal, Pune City Traffic Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar Magar, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Project Director Sanjay Kadam, Pimpri Chinchwad Police ACP (Traffic) Vitthal Kubde, etc. were present on this occasion.
The Chandni Chowk project, part of NHAI’s Bharatmala Project under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, involves the construction of an integrated structure bridge. 95 percent of the work of this Chandni Chowk project has been completed, and it is in the final stage. The main bridge (VOP) connecting NDA-Pashan has reached the substructure level, and work on the superstructure is currently in progress. As a result, a decision has been made to implement traffic diversions to ensure a smooth construction process.
During the designated three-hour period, the movement of multi-axle vehicles will be temporarily suspended. These vehicles will either be halted at suitable locations or directed to alternate routes. Light vehicles, buses, and trucks, on the other hand, will be directed to use the service road on both sides of the main carriageway.
Those travelling from Mumbai to Satara or Kothrud will utilise the newly constructed service road and Ramp-6. Similarly, for those heading towards Mumbai and Mulshi via Satara and Kothrud (Pune city), the newly constructed service road and Ramp-8 should be accessed from the Ved Bhavan side. It is important to note that other modes of transportation will not be affected by this diversion plan.
NHAI Project Director Kadam has assured that the traffic diversion will not cause any additional disruptions, and appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles.
