Pune: Traffic Diversions Announced in Wagholi for Ganesh Idol Immersion
Wagholi, 20th September 2026: Pune City Traffic Police have announced temporary diversions on the Pune–Ahilyanagar Road in the Wagholi area to prevent congestion during ninth-day Ganesh idol immersion processions.
The traffic changes will remain in force from 3 pm on Tuesday, September 22, until 2 am on Wednesday, September 23. Emergency-service vehicles, including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and police vehicles, will be exempted from the restrictions.
According to an order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare, most Ganesh mandals in Wagholi conduct immersion processions on the ninth day of the festival. The diversions have been introduced to ensure public safety and prevent traffic congestion on the Pune–Ahilyanagar Road.
Private travel buses, employee-transport buses and heavy vehicles travelling from Pune towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Marathwada and Shirdi via Nagar Road should use the route through Sadalbaba Chowk, Chandrama Chowk, Vishrantwadi, Alandi and Shikrapur.
Private buses and other affected vehicles travelling towards Mumbai via Nagar Road have been advised to proceed through Shikrapur and Chakan before continuing towards Mumbai.
Buses entering Pune from the Ahilyanagar side via Nagar Road will be diverted from Lonikand through Theur Phata, Kesnand and Theur, before joining Solapur Road and proceeding towards their destinations.
Separate alternative routes have been announced for light four-wheelers.
Vehicles travelling from Ahilyanagar towards Pune should proceed through Theur Phata, Lonikand village, Kesnand and Theur, and then use Solapur Road to reach their destinations.
Light vehicles travelling from Pune towards Shirur and Ahilyanagar should turn left at Wagheshwar Chowk, proceed via Bhavadi village, and then turn left near Surabhi Matha at Lonikand to rejoin the Pune–Ahilyanagar Highway.
The diversions are intended to minimise the risk posed to procession participants and other road users while keeping traffic moving through alternative routes. Similar Ganeshotsav-related restrictions have also been imposed on several other Pune roads to ensure safe and smooth traffic movement during the festival.
Traffic police have appealed to motorists to follow the designated alternative routes, obey instructions issued by personnel on duty and cooperate with the authorities to ensure that the immersion processions are conducted peacefully and traffic remains orderly.
