Pune Traffic Police Enforces New Heavy Vehicle Restrictions in Market Yard Area to Enhance Road Safety
Market Yard, 25th July 2025: In a move aimed at easing traffic flow and improving road safety, Pune’s Traffic Department has introduced new restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles in the bustling Market Yard traffic zone. The changes apply to vehicles such as trucks, dumpers, cement mixers, and container carriers.
The orders were issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act — Sections 115, 116(1)(A)(B), 116(4), and 117 — and are supported by a Maharashtra Government notification dated September 27, 1996.
Area-Wise Restrictions Now in Effect
The newly enforced rules include specific time-based and route-specific restrictions:
1. Tilak Chowk to Aai Mata Temple (Height Barrier Section):
Heavy vehicles are permitted only between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
2. Aai Mata Temple to Gangadham Chowk:
A round-the-clock ban has been placed on the entry of all heavy and oversized vehicles on this stretch.
3. Lulla Nagar – Kondhwa – Gangadham Chowk – Chandralok Hospital Chowk – Gangadham Chowk – Wakhar Mahamandal Chowk – Seven Loves Chowk:
Heavy vehicle movement is restricted from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM across these major road sections.
4. Wakhar Mahamandal Chowk to Market Yard Gate No. 9:
Only goods carriers arriving at night will be allowed to unload produce on private APMC roads, and only during designated off-peak hours.

The regulations aim to minimize traffic congestion, ensure pedestrian safety, and create a more orderly flow of commercial traffic in the area, which is often choked by heavy-duty vehicles during the day. However, emergency vehicles such as fire engines, police units, and ambulances are exempted from these restrictions to ensure uninterrupted access to essential services.
The Pune Traffic Police has appealed to both transporters and local commuters to adhere to these rules for the collective benefit of road users.
