Pune, 4th September 2023: The recently launched help desk at the Pune police traffic branch office in Yerwada has garnered a positive response from citizens. In the past seven days alone, 1,798 motorists have voluntarily paid over Rs 41 lakh in compromise fees.

Penalties are levied against drivers who flout traffic regulations, such as stopping vehicles at zebra crossings, disregarding signals, neglecting to wear helmets, failing to fasten seat belts, driving in the opposite direction, or using mobile phones while driving. These actions are enforced both by on-site traffic police and through CCTV surveillance.

However, there are still many motorists who have not settled their fines. For such individuals, an opportunity to pay through compromise has been extended by the Traffic Branch and District Legal Services Authority. A ‘helpdesk’ was inaugurated on August 28th at the traffic branch office.

Motorists can approach the helpdesk with their challan and a photo copy of their Aadhaar card. This initiative has been well-received by motorists and will continue until September 8. A Lok Adalat is scheduled for September 9, as announced by Vijayakumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune City Traffic Branch.

Between January 1 and August 31, 2023, the traffic branch took action against 699,879 motorists for violating traffic regulations. A sum of Rs 44.26 crore was collected in fines during this period.

Out of these violations, 248,240 motorists have paid a total fine of Rs 14.22 crore. However, 451,639 motorists are yet to settle their fines, amounting to over Rs 30 crore in outstanding dues.
