Pune, 23rd April 2025: The Pune Traffic Police has set a strict deadline of May 31 for all ongoing roadworks across the city to be completed, warning that failure to do so will worsen traffic congestion during the upcoming monsoon. The directive was issued in light of repeated traffic jams caused by ongoing infrastructure projects such as gas pipeline installations, drainage upgrades, and road resurfacing.

According to data from the traffic control room, Pune experienced traffic bottlenecks at least 12 times from January to March 2025 due to incomplete roadwork. Additional congestion was also reported at over 50 other locations citywide due to mismanaged excavation zones.

All traffic division officers have been instructed to inspect works in their areas and ensure that contractors finish all projects and properly resurface the roads before the monsoon. Contractors have been warned that failure to meet the May 31 deadline could lead to legal action if any incidents occur due to neglected construction.

The traffic branch has also mandated that written notices be issued to non-compliant contractors and filed for official records. Permissions granted for such work remain conditional upon ensuring smooth traffic flow during execution.
