Pune Traffic PTP App Under Fire After Complaints of Wrongful E-Challans

Pune, 2nd March 2026: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has criticised the Pune Traffic Police’s PTP mobile application, describing it as “unfair”, after complaints emerged that vehicles parked within authorised private premises were being issued e-challans.

The issue was discussed during a meeting with the Maharashtra Transport Action Committee, where Dr Keshav Nana Kshirsagar highlighted cases in which challans were generated against vehicles that were legally parked and not violating traffic or parking rules. Transport associations alleged that the practice amounted to harassment of motorists and misuse of enforcement powers.

Taking a serious view of the complaints, Sarnaik questioned the functioning of the digital enforcement system and reprimanded senior officials for allowing such actions. He directed the authorities to immediately stop issuing e-challans to vehicles parked in private, authorised parking spaces through the PTP app.

The minister said that wrongful penalties were causing unnecessary inconvenience to citizens and damaging public confidence in technology-driven traffic enforcement. He stressed the need for corrective measures and accountability to ensure fair and lawful implementation of traffic regulations.

Representatives of transport associations from across Maharashtra attended the meeting, during which the government assured a review of the PTP app’s operational framework to prevent misuse and safeguard citizens from unjust penalties.
