Pune: Traffic Resumes at Katraj Chowk After Six Months of Diversions

Katraj, 8th June 2025: Traffic movement at Katraj Chowk has returned to normal after nearly six months of diversions caused by the ongoing construction of a flyover. The diversions, which began on November 29, 2024, were lifted following the completion of the flyover’s main structural section.
The National Highways Department had rerouted traffic to facilitate work at this key junction, leading to longer commutes for thousands of daily travelers. Many commuters were forced to take detours, adding two to three kilometers to their usual routes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakare confirmed that regular traffic flow resumed at midnight on Friday. “With the major structural work completed, alternate routes are no longer required,” he said.
During the diversion period, traffic was redirected through nearby localities, resulting in congestion, delays, and frustration among residents. The extended travel time had become a daily challenge for many in the area.
The flyover project aims to decongest Katraj Chowk, a crucial intersection connecting Pune city to Satara Road and the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway. Although some work is still ongoing, officials have assured that it will not affect the main carriageway.
