Pune, 25th May 2025: In a heartwarming and determined effort, a heavily pregnant cow stuck in a narrow lane of a slum area on Tadiwala Road was rescued after a grueling 10-hour-long operation on Sunday.

The incident unfolded around 6 am, when two fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot after residents alerted authorities about the trapped animal. The cow, which is about eight months pregnant, had slipped and become wedged in a narrow L-shaped alley barely 1.5 to 2 feet wide.

Firefighters from the Pune Fire Brigade began rescue operations using ropes, safety belts, pulleys, and other specialized equipment. However, the extremely narrow space made maneuvering difficult. The rescue team initially attempted to free the cow’s legs and help her stand, but their efforts were hindered by the cramped conditions.

As the situation grew more complex, the RESQ Charitable Trust’s animal rescue team arrived to assist. With combined efforts, the team decided to remove four steps and fences from nearby houses to widen the rescue path.

After several hours of cautious planning, teamwork, and physical effort, the rescuers managed to gently pull the cow out without harming her or the unborn calf. The entire operation took close to 10 hours.

The moment the cow was safely rescued, a wave of relief and joy swept through the local residents who had gathered to watch and support the operation.

Senior Fire Officer Vijay Bhilare supervised the rescue, which involved the Pune Fire Brigade, RESQ Team, an animal ambulance, the Dhole Patil Ward Office, police officials, and several concerned local citizens.

The cow is now safe and recovering under veterinary care.
