Pune: Travellers Attacked Near Pune-Solapur Highway: Minor Assaulted, Women Robbed; Investigation Underway
Daund, 2nd July 2025: A robbery and sexual assault were reported at a tea stall close to Bhigwan on Monday (30th June). Two unidentified men reportedly stole gold jewellery from three women while sexually assaulted a minor.
Using weapons, two suspects threatened the family and threw chili powder in their eyes prior to committing the said robbery. The said incident took place at around 4:15 am on Monday (30th June) near Swami Chincholi, along the Pune-Solapur highway.
As per the information given by Sandeep Singh Gill, Pune Rural Police SP, seven members of three to four families were travelling in a vehicle. Feeling fatigued and sleepy, the elderly driver asked to take a break at a tea stall for tea. Two individuals allegedly arrived at the stall, threatened the family with a sharp weapon and tossing chilli powder in their eyes prior to stealing the gold earrings.
“In vehicle, three teenagers including two boys and one girl were also seated. The accused, reportedly pulled the 17-year-old girl out of the vehicle and dragged her 20 meters away to a road side and tried to sexually harrass her. The girl shouted for help which stopped the accused to commit the further grave incident,” Gill added.
Gill mentioned that the Pune Rural Police have followed the movements of the suspects linked to a robbery and sexual assault case reported near Daund, tracking their path all the way to Indapur.
“We examined recordings from more than 50 security cameras located at different venues and toll booths along the Pune–Solapur highway.” By utilizing this information, the police managed to follow the suspects on a motorcycle all the way to Indapur. The vehicle’s number plate was painted to be white to hide the identity. Gill added that further investigation is currently underway.
A case has been filed at the Daund police station under robbery, sexual assault, and other applicable sections of the Arms Act along with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police indicated they will also cite molestation and additional sections in the matter.
SP Gill has urged citizens to remain cautious on isolated roads and advised travelers to stop at hotels, restaurants, and petrol stations equipped with CCTV cameras. He urged everyone to remain safe and alert to their surroundings during late hours.
