Pune: Twin Robberies at Bungalows Rock Daund, Five Men Caught on CCTV
Daund, 1st November 2025: In a shocking incident, two bungalows were robbed late at night in Daund city and Sonawadi (taluka Daund), with valuables worth nearly Rs 6 lakh stolen from one of the houses. Police said the burglars targeted the homes of farmer Dattatreya Sapkal in Sonawadi and teacher Hiralal Shinde in Lokhande Vasti under Daund Municipal limits.
According to police, the burglary at Sapkal’s bungalow in Lokhande Vasti, located along the Daund–Ahilyanagar–Manmad National Highway, occurred between 2 am and 4 am. The robbers entered the house by breaking the wooden side door near a stream. They ransacked the rooms, broke open a cupboard, and stole about five tolas of gold ornaments, silver ornaments, and Rs 1 lakh in cash.
The burglars also broke into the warehouse behind the bungalow by cutting through an iron safety net. Sapkal’s family, who were asleep at the time, did not hear anything. He later told police that the family suspected the robbers might have sprayed a substance that rendered them unconscious, as even the barking of their dog failed to wake them.
In another incident the same night, five robbers targeted the closed bungalow of teacher Hiralal Shinde in the same locality. They broke a three-tiered iron security lock and pried open the wooden door before looting the cupboards, showcases, and furniture in the living room and other rooms. The total value of the stolen goods is yet to be ascertained.
CCTV footage from the area shows five men wearing monkey caps, black shirts and pants, and jerkins, carrying torches while patrolling nearby bungalows before the thefts.
Despite the robberies, senior police officials had reportedly not reached the scene until 9:30 am. Deputy Superintendent of Police Bapurao Dadas of Daund Sub-Division said that it appeared to be a case of housebreaking, and a complaint was being registered at Daund Police Station.
Police teams are examining CCTV footage and conducting a search for the suspects.
