Pune: Two Devotees Killed, 13 Injured in Tempo Collision Near Jejuri During Khandoba Yatra

Jejuri, 30th December 2024: A tempo carrying devotees from Ambegaon Taluka in Pune District to Jejuri for a divine fair met with an accident on Saswad Road near Belsar village. Two devotees in the tempo lost their lives, and 13 others were injured. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jejuri, according to local police.

The deceased have been identified as Jitendra Gyanoba Totre (35, resident of Kurwandi, Ambegaon) and Ashabai Balkrishna Jare (50, resident of Jarewadi, Khed). Jejuri police confirmed that 13 devotees sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at a private hospital.

According to police reports, 15 devotees from the Kurwandi village area of Ambegaon Taluka had set out for Jejuri in a tempo last night to attend the Khandoba Yatra, a divine fair. Around 2:30 AM on the Saswad-Nira road near Belsar village, the tempo collided with another tempo coming from the opposite direction. The impact resulted in the immediate deaths of the two victims.

Upon receiving information about the accident, villagers and Jejuri police rushed to the scene. The injured were promptly taken to a private hospital for treatment. A case has been registered against the tempo driver for causing the accident. Assistant Police Inspector Deepak Wakchoure is leading the investigation.
