Pune, 13th June 2023: Pune residents have fallen victim to an online job scam, where unknown fraudsters deceived them under the pretext of providing part-time online jobs.

The victims, Prachi Chandrakant Parab, aged 28, and Mukesh Babulal Dhakre, aged 29, have lodged complaints with the police, resulting in a case being registered at the cyber police station.

Prachi received a call on her mobile from an unknown number, where she was enticed with the offer of a part-time job. The fraudster, who identified themselves through a username saved as ‘Responyshot’ on a Telegram group, sent Prachi a link to complete various tasks. In collaboration with the fraudster, she was instructed to deposit a total of Rs 59,64,000 into an ICICI Bank account, under the pretence that her commission would increase as she completed the assigned tasks.

In a separate incident, Mukesh received a call on his mobile phone, where he too was lured into a part-time job. He was directed to different Telegram links and given various tasks, such as liking YouTube videos and subscribing to their YouTube account. The fraudsters promised him financial rewards from their company. As a result, Mukesh was coerced into investing money in a prepaid task, believing that he would benefit from it. He was instructed to make a payment of Rs 15,000, which was to be transferred to a UPI ID and a bank account.

The cyber police station has launched an investigation into the matter, and efforts are being made to trace the unknown accused involved in these fraudulent activities. This incident serves as a reminder for individuals to remain cautious while engaging in online job opportunities and to verify the authenticity of such offers before sharing any personal or financial information.
