Khadakwasla, 5th February 2024: A tempo collided with a two-wheeler and a pedestrian, resulting in the demise of both the two-wheeler rider and the pedestrian. The incident occurred on the Pune-Panshet road near Khadakwasla Chowpatty on Sunday morning.

The deceased persons have been identified as Vinayak Dilip Bhagat, 32 years old, a native of Bhagatwadi Bahuli, who lived in Kondhawe Dhawade; and Pandurang Shankar Randhir, 71 years old, residing in Jaihind Nagar, Khadakwasla. Bhagat, who was riding a bike, and Randhir, who was out for a morning walk, lost their lives in the incident.

The collision took place near the MES Canteen bus stop area, on the opposite side of Khadakwasla Chowpatty. Bhagat, accompanied by his two nephews, was en route to Sinhagad from Kondhawe Dhawade for a morning walk when the tempo, heading towards Pune, collided with them.

Following the impact, the tempo veered off and struck the right-side wall, causing stones to fall. Bhagat was rushed to a private hospital in Warje, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Warje Malwadi police were notified by the hospital authorities, leading to the registration of an ‘accidental death’ case.

Randhir, the retired DIAT employee and father of former Gram Panchayat member Ashish Randhir, was also admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police Inspector Sachin Wangde of Haveli police station (Pune rural police) mentioned that eyewitness accounts will be crucial in filing a case, and an investigation is underway to gather information from them.
