Pune: Two Men Sentenced to Jail, Fined Rs 20,000 Each for Drunk Driving in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 26th March 2025: Drunk driving has landed two individuals in legal trouble in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The Motor Vehicle Court in Shivajinagar has sentenced one person to four days of simple imprisonment and another to three days, along with a fine of ₹20,000 each.

Dattatray Atish Tipre (26), a resident of Sane Chowk, Chikhali, has been sentenced to four days in jail, while Rajkumar Garjuprasad Bharti (45), a resident of Ganesh Mandir, Nehru Nagar, has been sentenced to three days.

Court Finds Them Guilty
Last year, Pimpri Traffic Police had registered cases against Tipre and Bharti for driving under the influence of alcohol. The case was presented before the Motor Vehicle Court in Shivajinagar, where both were found guilty. The court imposed a fine of ₹20,000 each and ordered their imprisonment.

Traffic Police Crackdown on Drunk Driving
Under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, many drivers continue to flout traffic rules, risking lives by driving under the influence of alcohol. Such reckless behavior often leads to accidents. To curb this menace, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Branch registers cases against drunk drivers and presents them before the Motor Vehicle Court.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar urged citizens to act responsibly, stating, “For their own safety and that of others, drivers should avoid consuming alcohol or any other intoxicants before driving. Legal action will be taken against violators.”

272 Booked for Drunk Driving on Dhulivandan
In a major crackdown on Dhulivandan day, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police caught 272 people driving under the influence of alcohol. Breath analyzers were used to test suspected drunk drivers, and cases were registered against those found guilty.

The police have stated that further legal action will be taken against the offenders, including potential license suspension or additional penalties. Notices will be sent, and the accused will be required to appear in court.
