Pune: Will PMC Provide 40% Tax Rebate? Residents Await Clear Confirmation
Pune, 26th March 2025: Concerned citizens have demanded clarity from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the 40% property tax discount for the financial year 2025-26. Vivek Velankar, President of the Sajag Nagrik Manch, has urged the Municipal Commissioner to make an official statement to clear the confusion surrounding the tax rebate.
Earlier, PMC offered a 40% discount on property tax for self-occupied residential properties. However, this benefit was discontinued in 2018, leading to a 100% tax burden on approximately 4.5 lakh property owners until 2022. The state government later reinstated the 40% rebate, but many citizens are still uncertain about its application to their latest tax bills.
Many residents are unsure whether their property tax bills reflect the 40% discount. According to Velankar, even municipal officers and employees struggle to verify the rebate by merely inspecting the bills, often having to check the computer system for confirmation.
As PMC prepares tax bills for the financial year 2025-26, Velankar has cautioned that failure to explicitly mention the 40% discount in the bills could further mislead taxpayers. He has urged the administration to ensure transparency in tax calculations and prevent unnecessary confusion.
Citizens now await a formal response from PMC officials to clarify whether they will receive the discount in their upcoming tax bills.
