Pune, 16th January 2023: It has come to light that Kite flying has been done on Sankranti in defiance of the ban on nylon Manja. An incident took place on the Shankar Maharaj flyover on the Pune-Satara road where two policemen on a two-wheeler were injured due to a nylon Manja.

The injured have been identified as police personnel Mahesh Pawar and Sunil Gawli. Both Pawar and Gawli are posted at Shivajinagar Police Headquarters.

On Sunday, on a two-wheeler both; Pawar and Gawli had left from the Shankar Maharaj flyover on the Pune-Satara road. At that time Pawar’s neck was injured as Manja got stuck in his neck. Help Riders organization volunteer Balasaheb Dhamale said that his colleague Gawli, who was with him, got his hand cut due to Manja.

Dhamale was an eyewitness when the entire incident happened. He immediately admitted police personnel Pawar and Gawli to the hospital.

Due to the use of Nylon Manja for kite flying on the occasion of Sankranti, birds such as Black Kites, Crows, Pigeons, and Red-breasted flycatchers were injured in different parts of the city.

Dhamale on Sunday (January 15) rescued three Black Kite birds stuck in the Manja from different areas of the city such as Kothrud, Budhwar Peth and Kasba Peth, etc. The Manja hurt the birds’ wings. Dhamale rescued the said birds and admitted them to the animal and bird orphanage in Katraj for treatment.
