Dhanori, 26th October 2023: A 34-year-old resident of Dhanori fell prey to cybercriminals posing as YouTube representatives. The perpetrators, preying on the allure of lucrative commissions for subscribing and liking YouTube content, managed to swindle Shulbh Nangar out of a significant sum—Rs 49.68 Lakhs.

Initially lured by the promise, Nangar paid Rs 1,350, only to later succumb to coercion and transfer an additional Rs 49,68,000 under the false pretext of an investment for commissions. No returns were forthcoming, prompting Nangar to file a prompt complaint at the cyber police station. A case has been registered against the individuals associated with the Telegram app, who are suspected of orchestrating this elaborate scheme.

In a similar incident, Muffdal Mohammad, a 48-year-old resident of Kondhwa, found himself embroiled in a similar cyber scam, losing Rs 70.32 Lakh. The scam involved deceptive ‘task job’ offers communicated through Telegram, WhatsApp, and email. The unidentified perpetrators gained Mohammad’s trust, assigning various tasks that required substantial financial transfers—Rs 70,32,000—to different bank accounts for purported charges. Unfortunately, these transactions yielded no returns, resulting in Mohammad’s significant financial loss. A case has been officially lodged at the cyber police station, and investigations are underway.

The cyber police have issued a crucial appeal to the public as scams involving YouTube subscriptions, likes, and fraudulent ‘task job’ offerings via Telegram, WhatsApp, and email are on the rise. These scams pose a considerable risk of financial loss to unsuspecting individuals. The public is strongly advised to exercise caution and scepticism, resisting enticing offers and inducements. Vigilance remains paramount in safeguarding against cybercriminals who exploit unsuspecting victims.
