Pune: Two Women Police Personnel from Pimpri Chinchwad Plan Same-Sex Marriage in Alandi, Seek Leave from Commissionerate

Pimpri Chinchwad, 24th August 2026: Two women police personnel in the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate have decided to spend their lives together and have applied for leave to get married in a Vedic ceremony at Alandi on August 30. Their decision has sparked discussion within the police department.

The two women first met during the police recruitment process. Both had come to Pimpri Chinchwad with the ambition of joining the police force and, after clearing all stages of recruitment, joined the department as police constables. Following their training, they were posted at the police headquarters for some time, where they stayed at the same premises along with other women police personnel.

Later, both were posted at the same police station in the central part of the city. Over time, their friendship grew closer and they decided to live together. Their relationship also came to the attention of the family members of one of the women, who reportedly opposed the relationship.

The family members are also understood to have approached senior police officials seeking intervention against the proposed marriage. However, since the matter concerns the personal lives of the two women, the police administration is reportedly not seeking to prevent the marriage and has instead indicated that counselling could be offered, if required.

Meanwhile, the two women have officially submitted leave applications at their police station for the wedding. They have also attached their wedding invitation card to the applications. The move has effectively brought their relationship, which had been the subject of discussion within the department, into the official domain.

It has also emerged that one of the two women has begun medical treatment related to gender transition. She is reportedly undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai. However, there is currently no clarity on the legal implications of the treatment in relation to the proposed marriage.

Separately, another woman police employee in the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate is understood to have undergone gender-affirming surgery. The employee had joined the Pimpri Chinchwad police force through a district transfer from Beed and reportedly underwent the procedure after obtaining government permission.

Following the surgery, the employee has sought permission from the government to have her official service records changed to reflect her as a male police employee. However, no final decision has reportedly been taken on the issue, particularly in view of the concessions and reservation benefits available to her as a female candidate at the time of recruitment and the implications for her service records.

With the proposed marriage of the two women police personnel drawing attention, the issue of changing service records following gender transition has also emerged. The developments highlight new administrative and legal questions for the police department as institutions respond to changing social realities.
