Pune: Two Women Seriously Injured In Leopard Attack Near Rajgurunagar

Retwadi, 11th May 2022: Two women were attacked by two leopards at different places in Retwadi village in Khed taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. Both the women were severely injured in the attack and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Rizwana Abdul Pathan (50) and Aruna Sanjay Bhalekar (50) were injured in the attack. Their heads and mouths have been badly injured by leopard paws and bites.

They were initially admitted to Chandoli Rural Hospital. However, due to deep wounds and bleeding, they have been shifted to Sassoon Hospital in Pune for treatment.

Rizwana was injured in a leopard attack at 6.30 pm on Tuesday (May 10). The attack took place at Pathan Vasti in Retwadi. The villagers informed the forest department about the attack.

Rajgurunagar Forest Range Officer PS Raundhal, Dattatraya Phapale, Shivaji Rathod, Sandeep Arun reached the spot. The leopard was spotted in the bushes by a torch. The villagers and the Forest Department team were shouting at the leopard, still, the leopard was standing in front of them.

As the leopard was in front of them, they received information of another attack at Satarka Vasti which is 3 km from Pathan Vasti. Aruna was attacked around 8.30 pm. The attack took place on Panand Road while she was on her way home from a wedding ceremony at a Zilla Parishad school in Satarka Vasti. After receiving the information, people attending the marriage ceremony rushed toward the spot. The villagers and Forest department team from Pathan Vasti also reached there. The injured woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.

This is the fourth incident of leopard attack in the village in the last one and a half months and this has created an atmosphere of fear among the villagers of Retwadi.
