Katraj/Kondhwa, 8th July 2025: A road accident at Katraj Ghat on Sunday evening claimed the lives of two young brothers, aged 8 and 11, and left four of their family members injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided head-on with a car.

The victims, residents of Saibabanagar in Kondhwa, were on their way to a dargah in Khed Shivapur when the incident occurred. According to police officials, the deceased have been identified as Ahmed Raza Shaikh (11) and his younger brother Ubed Shaikh (8).

The injured include their five-year-old brother Bilal Shaikh, their uncle Kasim Shaikh (25), his wife Aliya (21), and their one-year-old daughter Inaya. All six were travelling in an autorickshaw driven by Kasim when the accident happened.

Sub-Inspector Ajit Patil of Rajgad Police Station, who is investigating the case, said, “The family was travelling through the Katraj Ghat when a car coming from the opposite direction veered out of control and crashed into the rickshaw after a sharp bend. The impact was so severe that the rickshaw overturned and rolled off the road.”

Emergency responders rushed all six victims to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, Ahmed and Ubed were declared dead shortly after arrival. The others are being treated for their injuries. “The two surviving children sustained serious injuries, but doctors have confirmed that their condition is stable,” PSI Patil added.

The car driver, who has not been named yet, allegedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating a turn in the ghat section. Based on preliminary findings, Rajgad police have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the driver.

“Our investigation is still underway. We are speaking to witnesses and gathering further evidence to determine the exact sequence of events,” PSI Patil said.
