Pune Uber Driver Booked for Molesting Woman After Fare Dispute in Baner
Baner, 3rd January 2026: The Puen City Police have registered a case against an Uber cab driver for allegedly molesting a 42-year-old makeup artist after a dispute over the fare in the Baner area on Sunday morning.
According to police, the incident took place around 10.42 am when the woman, who works with a beauty parlour, had booked an Uber from Narhe to Baner.
After reaching her destination, the driver reportedly demanded an amount higher than what was displayed on the app. When the woman objected, an argument broke out.
A senior police officer from Baner police station said, “The driver insisted on extra payment beyond the fare shown in the application. When the woman refused, a verbal altercation followed.”
The officer added that the situation escalated quickly. “The complainant has stated that the driver abused her and then touched her inappropriately before speeding away from the spot.”
Police have registered an offence under Sections 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators have obtained the cab’s registration number and the driver’s identity.
“We have traced the vehicle and the driver’s details. He will be taken into custody shortly for questioning,” the officer said.
Following the incident, the woman also filed a complaint through the Uber app.
Responding to the matter, an Uber spokesperson said, “We have zero tolerance for any form of inappropriate behaviour. As soon as the rider reported the incident, the driver’s access to the Uber platform was suspended. We are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation.”
