Undri, 11th November 2024: A team from the Mohammadwadi – Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF), accompanied by heads of neighboring societies, met with two candidates from the Purandar constituency ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. The candidates included Mamta Shivtare, daughter of Vijay Shivtare, representing Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and Sambaji Zende from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), aligned with Ajit Pawar.

During the meeting, the MURWDF team presented a Citizen’s Manifesto outlining key local issues and concerns, followed by fruitful discussions with the candidates. Both candidates listened attentively to the residents’ concerns and committed to providing feedback in the near future. The residents expressed their intention to meet with other candidates from the Purandar and Hadapsar constituencies in the coming days as part of their ongoing efforts to bring attention to the challenges facing the area.

The Citizen’s Manifesto, which was shared during the meeting, highlighted several longstanding issues that have affected residents of the Mohammadwadi and Undri areas, particularly after the merging of Undri with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2017. Among the primary concerns raised were the lack of a Development Plan (DP) for Undri, inadequate water supply, faulty sewage infrastructure, power outages, and poor road conditions.

The manifesto emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive DP for Undri, which has been pending since the area’s merger with PMC. Residents also highlighted the ongoing water supply issues, particularly the reliance on expensive water tanker services, and called for the establishment of proper sewage pipelines to connect local housing societies to the PMC’s main sewage system.

“We urge the candidates to take immediate action on these pressing issues that have been affecting our quality of life for years,” said a representative from MURWDF. “We hope the new government will prioritize infrastructure development and provide solutions for both short-term and long-term concerns.”

In addition to infrastructure demands, the manifesto addressed other concerns, such as the need for better streetlights, improved power supply, and safer roads in Undri. The residents also requested the conversion of open spaces into parks and recreational areas, addressing encroachment issues, and improving traffic management around schools and major roads.

The MURWDF team plans to continue engaging with political candidates and local authorities to ensure that the residents’ voices are heard and that practical solutions are implemented to improve the area’s infrastructure and living conditions.
