Pune Division Railway Stations Earn ‘Eat Right Station’ Certification for Food Safety
Pune, 11th November 2024: Ten railway stations, including Pune, in the Pune division have received the ‘Eat Right Station’ certification. All food vendors at these stations were trained in proper food preparation and service and were tested by a third-party organization before being awarded the rating. This initiative is expected to provide railway passengers with access to cleaner food.
The initiative was implemented by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is part of the ‘Eat Right India’ campaign, led by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The ‘Eat Right Station’ certification is one of the activities under this campaign. The initiative provides training to all food vendors, catering units, restaurants, food courts, and small vendors at railway stations. The training focuses on safe cooking and handling practices, from food preparation to serving.
After receiving the training, food vendors’ compliance is checked by a third-party organization. Based on the results of this inspection, the station is rated as an ‘Eat Right Station.’
Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner of the FDA (Food), stated that all food professionals at the ten railway stations in the Pune division were trained in food safety. After passing the third-party tests, the stations met the required standards, and the FSSAI awarded them the ‘Eat Right Station’ certification.
