Pune, August 17, 2020: As many as 21 guards at the Savitribai Phule Pune University(SPPU) have been found Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) positive.

SPPU campus has been locked for the past few months after one patient succumbed to the Coronavirus. Even after taking all the necessary precautions, 21 guards tested positive on Saturday.

A guard at the SPPU returned from his hometown with symptoms like cold and fever. After being tested, he turned out to be positive, which raised queries amongst other security guards. A testing camp was set up for the 200 guards and 21 were found positive. Currently, all of them are quarantined at the College Of Engineering Pune(COEP) and are asymptomatic.

Speaking to Punekarnews. in security in-charge, Bhursingh Rajput said, “As soon as the marshalls were found positive, our cabins and the building where they stayed were sanitized so that the disease is not spread. We are following the State government’s protocols and outsiders are not allowed to enter the premises.”

At least two patients had been detected positive last month. Shaunak Kulkarni, professor at the department of anthropology, died on August 8. He was tested positive for the virus and had recovered earlier.
