Pune University Allocates Rs 9 Crore For Students Scholarships, VC Lashes Out At Arrogant Staff For Disrespecting Students

Pune, 1st April 2022: Savitribai Phule Pune University’s budget of Rs 481 crore for the financial year 2022-23 and a deficit of Rs 70 crore was presented in the Senate on Wednesday. Last year, the university’s revenue fell by about Rs 100 crore, and this year the deficit has increased by about Rs 18 crore.

The budget session was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar. He took to task the staff who do not behave properly with the students and disrespect them.

The budget was presented by Rajesh Pande, a member of the management council.

At this time, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr NS Umrani, Registrar Dr Prafulla Pawar were present. At the beginning of the session, Dr Karmalkar presented a report reviewing the five years of work of the University. The budget shows a deposit of Rs 481 crore and an expenditure of Rs 551 crore.

Rajesh Pande said that Swami Vivekananda financial assistance scheme has started to provide financial assistance to students in times of natural calamities. A provision of Rs 3.25 crore is made for educational help to students who lost their parents during the COVID pandemic period. Also, through the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, a fund of Rs 25 lakh was given to set up a museology department at the SPPU.

The university has started using the mercantile system for financial transactions. Mentioning that Savitribai Phule Pune University is the first university in the state to use this method, Pande said that a provision of Rs 9.25 crore was made for students so they will be able to take advantage of the scholarship. Rs 25 lakhs for satellite equipment development centre, Rs 10 lakhs for Rohini Bhate dance research project, in the budget.

• Khashaba Jadhav sports complex : Rs 2 crore
• Student Development board : Rs 9.75 crore
• Samarth Bharat Abhiyan : Rs 75 lakh
• Emergency management training : Rs 90 lakh
• Student insurance and emergency assistance : Rs 40 lakh
• Cultural programs and other schemes : Rs 1 core
• Hostel management and development : Rs 2.18 crore
• Nagar and Nashik Sub centre construction : Rs 2 crore
• Quality Improvement program : Rs 10 crore
