Pune, 7th September 2023: Various student organizations at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) campus recently organized a protest, urging the university to implement a carry-on option for engineering degree students.

Responding to these demands, SPPU has decided to extend this opportunity not only to engineering students but also to those pursuing programs in science and technology, commerce and management, anthropology, and interdisciplinary fields.

Under this new provision, students who have failed their first or second year exams will have the chance to reappear for their examinations. This decision comes after considerable agitation by student groups, including NSUI, advocating for a policy similar to the one offered by MSBTE for engineering students.

In a significant move, SPPU officials held discussions in light of these protests and decided to approve a proposal that allows students who failed in the 2023 summer exams to rejoin the academic process.

According to the circular released by SPPU, students who didn’t clear their first-year exams will be granted admission to the fifth session of the third year, and those who failed in the second year will be eligible for the sixth session of the fourth year, subject to certain conditions.

To ensure compliance, each college is required to obtain an undertaking from students. Furthermore, colleges are expected to monitor these students to ensure they complete their coursework, practicals, factory visits, and other academic requirements. Students who manage to clear their backlog during the October 2023 exams will be eligible for admission into the third or fourth year of their respective programs.

These students will also have the opportunity to appear for written examinations during the summer exams in 2024, covering the sessions they missed earlier. However, it’s essential to note that students who fail to clear their backlog for the first, second, and third years will not be permitted to continue their studies into the fifth or seventh sessions of the third and fourth years.

Any students in this situation will have their admissions automatically revoked, and the fees paid to the college will not be refunded, as outlined in the circular.
