Pune, 10th November 2025: After nearly three years, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has finally initiated the long-pending recruitment process for four key dean positions that have remained vacant since 2022. The university administration has issued a fresh advertisement for the posts, with applications opening on November 13.

According to university officials, the absence of full-time deans has significantly affected the implementation of academic policies and slowed the overall pace of academic activities. The responsibilities had been managed by in-charge officers over the past few years.

Earlier, on July 10, 2023, the university had announced recruitment for the same positions. However, the process was halted after the state government directed SPPU to suspend the exercise until the reservation policy for dean appointments was revised. With the new reservation framework now finalized, the university has reopened the recruitment process.

As per the latest notification, applications will be accepted until December 12, 2025. Detailed information and the application form have been made available on the university’s official website.

The dean posts have remained vacant since the retirement of then Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar on May 17, 2022. The university administration aims to complete the appointments before the model code of conduct for the upcoming local body elections comes into effect. Officials expressed confidence that the timely resumption of the process will ensure the appointment of full-time deans soon, giving a much-needed boost to SPPU’s academic functioning.
