Pune University Students Protest Demanding Online Exams

Pune, 9th April 2022: A few days back, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant had said that it is not right to demand online exams when there are few corona cases in the state.
However, the youth wing of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a constituent party of the Mahavikas Aghadi government, today led a protest at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) demanding the summer session examinations be conducted online.
Omkar Benke, president of the SPPU unit of the Nationalist Students Congress, said that in an online survey conducted by the organization, more than 1.6 lakh students have registered in favour of online exams.
SPPU had planned to conduct winter session examinations offline. However, due to the outbreak of corona, the exams had to be taken online, which delayed the exams. Now that the colleges have re-opened, the summer session exams will be held offline in June-July.
The university has issued a circular stating that it will be conducted in a systematic manner. However, some students and student unions are demanding online exams. An online survey was conducted by the Nationalist Youth Congress and the Nationalist Students Congress on online examinations.
“The university conducted the winter session exams online three months late. The summer session syllabus was taught online. Now taking exams offline will cause academic loss to the students. Final year students will be at a disadvantage as their final semester will be late”, Benke said.
